Family plays an important part in Juan Lopez’s immigration story. He watched his father struggle to support his family as a child in Guatemala. He came to New Bedford with the help of a cousin. And he worked in the fish processing industry, with low pay and harsh conditions as he describes, so that he could support his wife and daughter at home, and his parents back in Guatemala. “It’s like I have two families to support,” he says.
